The Day Before

This week has been crazy as we’ve prepared everything ready for tomorrow, but I’m really excited! I’m can’t wait to work with the NCSU students, youth from Haven House, and Katherine and Grace. I think it’ll be a great way to bring everyone together and get people from different backgrounds to communicate. After all, since everyone has to eat, food connects us all, and that’s why planting a garden can be so influential to a community.

A before shot of the garden - it'll look totally different after tomorrow!

Shamsa and I worked together to buy all the supplies and create an agenda, so I hope it comes together well tomorrow. I focused on coordinating the volunteers, finding a photographer, making sure Katherine knew her responsibilities, figuring out parking, and ordering bagels for Saturday morning. Shamsa and I have also worked hard to make sure we have all the garden supplies, the Victory Garden sign supplies, arrange the tools and van from Dr. Patterson, and confirmed Haven House youth attendance. We have a garden journal for Grace that we know she'll love! Katherine on the other side of town was busy getting the wood chips; not an easy task. Go Katherine! We both also took care of plants this week: Shamsa took care of the flowers we bought last weekend, while I took care of the vegetables that my parents sent to Raleigh for us.

I’m a little worried about coordinating everything in the morning and getting it all done in 2 hours, but I’m sure it’ll all work out. We have a pretty big group coming, and as the saying goes, “many hands make light work!” I can’t wait to see the final results!
